Educational scientific centre on modern mathematics and its applications was founded at the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics of Novosibirsk State University in 1997 and consists of three branches:
bulletCentre on basic problems of mathematics on the basis of the Institute of Mathematics (SB RAS); the head - the chairman of the department of theoretical cybernetics, professor V.G.Dement'ev;
bulletCentre on computational mathematics and computer science on the basis of the Institute of computational mathematics and mathematical geophysics, Institute of Computational Technologies and Institute of informatics systems (SB RAS); the head - the Deputy chairman of the department of mathematical methods in geophysics, assistant professor E.N. Golubeva;
bulletCentre Continuum Mechanics on the basis of the Institute of Hydrodynamics SB RAS; the head - the chairman of the department of hydrodynamics, professor N.I.Makarenko.
 

The objectives and tasks of the centre

To organize effective work of students, postgraduates and those studying for their Ph.D. specializing at the sub-departments of the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics at NSU in the basic institutes of SB RAS in order to improve the quality of training and to conduct research in the close contact with the leading scientists of the Academy of Sciences.
